What drives me batty at the start of a New Year!

The start of a new year is supposed to be thought of as a rebirth. A reset button from the past mistakes and did not dos. But every year, just after Christmas, those commercial and other advertisements for diet pills and the perfect workout are everywhere. You can’t get away from them! Being overweight most of my life, hearing those ads, just brought me down. Instead of being happy and hitting the reset button, or thinking of how the past year improved, I found myself thinking how fat I am. How unattractive or out of shape I am, how I don’t come close to the “fat” models in magazines.
I say, ENOUGH WITH THE CRAZY!
The thing to keep in mind is to love yourself. Love yourself. That little voice that says you can’t have the piece of cake is just society’s influence on your self-esteem. Looking in the mirror and not liking what you see, it just years of self-doubt and gimmicks to spend your hard earn money.
The next things to keep in mind, there is no pill or one special workout routine that will get you in the best shape of your life in two weeks. The body takes time to adjust, to reset its self. It needs to be condition. The body needs time and consistency. And that is just the body.
Way of thinking, it changes so much. And it takes more time and discipline to adjust. It is harder not to have that piece of cake and ENJOY IT, if you are not thinking of the cake. If you are drowning in your sorrows or stressing about the day. How many times have you ate something and then thought, wait, that was the last bite? You were thinking about something else and not in the present.
So, I challenge you, every day, wake up loving yourself. Each day, decide to dismiss the latest colon-cleanse drop 10 pounds in 3 days, do not fall for the pop a pill and be sexy or drink a shake and lose love handles, do one kind of exercise and be able to run a marathon. Health, is a combination of everything. It varies from month to month and day to day. Do not cut yourself down when you ENJOY and be present while enjoying your occasional treat.
When you love yourself, you will start to take care of yourself. You will find, it doesn’t take a lot of time, it happens throughout your day. It doesn’t take a lot of money. Walking is free. Doing squats, push-up or lunges, is free. Loving yourself will increase those feel good hormones and it will become an addiction you will be glad to have developed.
Lastly, don’t wait. Being healthy doesn’t have to start at the new year. Or the new month. Or even on the dreaded Monday. It can start this moment. And it can always restart. Healthy is not about being a size 6 or 0. It’s not about running a 4-minute mile. It is a complete mind, body and soul. It is being able to say no to the cake if you don’t want it and not regretting it or worrying what others think. Health is by-passing the new diet pill and opting for good nutrition. Enough with the crazy mess. Enough with not feeling like you don’t fit in with the crowd. Enough damaging your body and its hormones. Enough with negativity. Enough with waiting and looking for a quick fix. Love yourself enough to put in the time and effort you deserve to be healthy in the entirely.
